PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (Fabric, Trim Development, R&D) Splendid. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:. Fabric R&D:. Partner with the Design team and independently research, develop, and source fabrics, trims and color that are on trend and brand right. Create and maintain fabric sourcing library. Fabric sourcing (seasonal):. Forge and maintain relationships with mills (Domestics and Import). Responsible for maintaining, updating, and analyzing fabric projects that are meeting target goals and quality standards. Responsible for seasonal fabric development and allocation. Responsible for obtaining all TSS (Fabrics, trims, embellishments), creating Raw Materials codes in PLM and proper set up. Partner with Production teams to identify red flags materials, negotiate and set minimums, confirm surcharges, and negotiate bulk costs. Responsible for obtaining all final approvals from design on all fabrics, trims, treatments and lab dips by calendar due date (manage & monitor). Hand off to Production. Responsible for sending lab dips and color comments to vendors in a timely manner and follow up to approval. Partners with merchandising to achieve corporate target margins for all applicable categories while providing customer value ensuring the highest IMU in line with design aesthetics. Assist in reviewing product to ensure continued improvement in product price, quality and deliveries. Work with Design, Operations and Production to ensure product is executable and according to construction and cost requirements. Responsible for raising potential issues early in the process linked to fabric quality and delivery. Resolve daily issues linked to developments; reports all issues in a timely manner to PD Manager. Consistently partner with design, merchandising, production and vendors on fabric and trims development related issues for immediate and future needs. Sampling:. Responsible to order all fabrics and trims for SMS by calendar due dates. Responsible for gathering all Domestic and Import fabrics T&A. Communicate with cross functional teams all SMS fabrics and trims ETA and sample tracking and ordering. Compliance:. Partner with the Compliance team to ensure all concepts, treatments and raw materials meet the VFC RSL, Product Safety guidelines and Quality standards. Supports the process of providing new vendor contact information. Calendar (PD):. Responsible for meeting all PD calendar target dates: from concept and sketch brush through, pre costing (1st & 2nd), dupes due, costing finalization & final brush through, push over to pre-pro (PLM) and any new calendar steps that may be implemented based on business needs. Allocation:. Partner with Production team to strategically plan fabric allocation for bulk. Responsible for clearly communicating and handing off all information for correct costing/BOM setup by calendar due dates. Responsible for communicating and meeting all key dates of the development and pre-production fabric T&A. Other:. Effectively act as a liaison between design, operations and production. Sit in and participate in all design/merchandising meetings. Ensures that there is full understanding of the development process and leadtime throughout the team and across the other key areas (design, merchandising, costing, production and operations). Additional projects as needed. EDUCATION. BS/ BA in a related field of study. SKILLS. In depth fabric knowledge and experience in relation to weaving, knitting, printing, dyeing, finishing, treatments and washing techniques as well as mill capabilities. Strong Import experience, working with mills and with garments vendors and factories. Knowledge and understanding of merchandising and product development. Strong design aesthetic with a good understanding of the creative process. Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal to internal teams but also to both Domestic and Import vendors. Ability to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities. High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation and entrepreneurial spirit. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and strong sense of urgency. Ability to understand, assess and problem solve by leveraging technical and analytical skills. Accountable for decisions and actions. Effective with time management, decision-making, presenting and reporting. Discipline to calendar. Microsoft Office proficiency. PLM Knowledge is a plus. About Us.
