Graduate Assistantships at Lock Haven University provide students with a variety of opportunities for scholarly and professional development designed first and foremost to reinforce and enhance their scholarly pursuits, while providing financial assistance for students in attaining their educational goals. Graduate assistantships give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in teaching, research, academic or administrative service under the guidance of a faculty or staff member. Graduate Assistantships are integral to the students program of study and to the transformation of a student into a professional scholar. They also advance the University mission to recruit highly qualified students to our graduate programs in greater numbers.
The CEI Graduate Assistant (GA) position reports directly to Director of the Center for Excellence and Inclusion. The GA will work closely with the Director, Assistant Director and CEI student staff to support retention efforts and initiatives focused on improving student engagement, student success, and student retention. This position requires the ability to work independently, think creatively, and work as a member of the CEI Team. The GA must possess strong communication skills, empathy, work ethic, organization skills, and a general willingness to want to help others.
The graduate assistant will:1.Assist with programs geared toward student engagement, student success and retention2.Communicate with the Director and Assistant Director about projects, events, responsibilities, issues, and concerns. 3.Attend weekly Professional Staff Meeting with the Director and Assistant Director.4.Attend weekly student staff meetings.5.Attend other meetings as deemed appropriate by the Director (examples: First Alert, EM/SA Division).6.Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.7.Coordinate and monitor student progress in Haven Excellence.8.Foster positive working relationships with student mentors and students in Haven Excellence9.Attend and support programs on campus, specifically those that support student engagement, student success and retention.10.Guide students in accessing academic resources available at LHU such as D2L, Myhaven, and academic support services 11.Provide appropriate referrals to departmental personnel and campus offices (such as Financial Aid, Registrars Office, etc.) 12.Help to maintain CEIs social media presence13.Complete assigned administrative responsibilities: data entry, word processing, photocopying, filing, and creating marketing materials 14. Assist with special projects as assigned
Qualifications:Candidate must be full-time, degree-seeking student in a LHU graduate program;must be enrolled in 9 graduate credit hours each semester of assistantship; Maintain GPA of at least 3.00.
