Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Michigan Technological University Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) located in beautiful Houghton Michigan, invites nominations and applications for its inaugural Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. Michigan Tech seeks a strategic thinker, scholar and leader steeped in best practices of diversity and inclusion to serve in this role. The University seeks someone to forge a new and creative course that best reflects the distinctiveness of the institution, its mission, it commitment to the State of Michigan that will elevate Michigan Tech as a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion. The University must have a creative and energetic visionary for the role of Vice President who will be recognized as a leader on campus and throughout higher education. This position will play a pivotal role in the Universitys strategic planning and will report directly to the President. The successful candidate will have a track record of accomplishment in outlining institutional initiatives, building programs, and promoting diversity in a large organizational setting. The VP will have a thorough knowledge of research and best practices around campus diversity. Experience working in an academic environment with demonstrated success in strengthening the campus community through proactive recruitment, training, and programming. The VP will have demonstrated skills in collecting and using data to assess programs and increase shared accountability; a supervisory record that demonstrates collaborative strengths in coaching and mentoring,identifying outstanding talent, and the ability to form coalitions and inspire others. The successful candidate will demonstrate cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence, influencing skills, and the ability to engage and build relationships with university constituencies and underrepresented communities. The VP/CDO will have strong communication and conflict-resolution skills needed to navigate socially- and politically-charged situations to resolve problems, build consensus, and reconcile competing interests. This position will have a dramatic effect on the future of Michigan Tech as it is to be the foundation that the future of diversity programs on campus, in the community, and throughout the STEM disciplines relies on for decades into the future. At least 7 years of demonstrated experience and achievement in equity, inclusion and diversity initiatives within higher education and/or a related setting, a degree is required for the position.
