Job Title:Social Media Specialist
Reports To:Director, Marketing

Summary:The Social Media Specialist is one of the Association’s principal staffers responsible for implementing community-building and outreach strategies across the Association’s and public-facing social networks. This includes developing and curating content in coordination with the Community Specialist, ensuring consistency of messaging and voice. The Social Media Specialist will have a strong understanding of all necessary aspects of Social Media management, and a proven ability to leverage content and resources to create and maintain engaging public-facing channels.

Competencies:Under the supervision of the Director, Marketing and in coordination with the Community Specialist and internal business units, the Social Media Specialist will cultivate and maintain a strong online presence around the Association’s brand. The Social Media Specialist supports the Association’s strategic and business initiatives and programs by strategically managing Specialty Food Association’s online presence and optimizing content to strategically attract and build online engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Responsible for developing and maintaining an integrated social media strategy across all Association social channels;
•Build upon online social media presence and execute strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification;
•Coordinate with internal business units and teams to curate messaging to external audience communities via social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. Participate in the oversight of third-party partners who support our social media and other community activities;
•Optimize company pages within each platform to increase the visibility of Specialty Food Association’s social content;
•Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content that builds and maintains meaningful connections and following;
•Moderate user-generated content and engage as appropriate;
•Continuously improve by capturing, analyzing, and acting upon appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices.


Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience;
•3-5 years of digital experience in social media communication;
•Strong project management, time management and organizational skills;
•Strong oral and written communication skills;
•Cross-organizational team management experience highly desired;
•Direct experience and in-depth knowledge and understanding of online Social Media platforms and how they can be deployed to support core business and strategic objectives;
•Required experience with a major community-focused CMS platform;
•Competent in managing social media platforms and understanding analytics;
•Strong technical understanding and the ability to develop the required skill set to manage community activities via new toolsets;
•Good knowledge of principles of customer service;
•Editorial, on-line education, digital marketing, and public relations experience, a plus;
•Passion for the food industry and related issues. Direct experience in the specialty or general food industry highly desired;

Computer Skills:
•Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
•Basic knowledge of social network dynamics and best practices including the use of industry-standard or enterprise toolsets such as Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Crimson Hexagon, Engagor, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
•External vendors, consultants and contractors

Working Conditions:
•The Association’s headquarters is located in an office building. This role is based in the NYC-office. Moderate remote working may be permitted at the discretion of the Director of Audience Experience & Technology. Job demands may require long periods of sitting; telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other staff members, external vendors and SFA external constituents. Position may require occasional lifting of heavy boxes, up to 40 pounds, and
filing in lateral and upright file cabinets.
