Talen Energy is soliciting candidates interested in filling the position of Journeyman Mechanic - Nuclear at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station located near Berwick, Pennsylvania.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:
-

Follows established work procedures and written maintenance instructions for diagnosing and remedying improper performance of equipment found in a power plant. Provides input to the development of maintenance procedures and programs.
-

Uses high degree of skill in directing and performing inspection, test and repair work.
-

Performs equipment installation and alignment on equipment such as turbines, generators, fans, compressors, etc.
-

Performs layout for substations, structures, etc. requiring a high degree of skill with very limited direction.
-

Performs machining duties requiring the highest level of skill. Does major machine work on commutators, collector rings, pump shafts, impellers, bushings, sleeves, wear rings, discs, guides, valves, pump bodies and other equipment requiring similar skill; makes shrink fits; pours and machines bearings; performs metal spray overlays; cuts gears, cams and key ways; fits and scrapes bearings; performs other similar duties. Must be skilled in the use of lathes, shapers, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, micrometers, layout equipment and all the tools and equipment associated with the machinist trade.

Assumes responsibility and assures that a job--from diagnosis through disassembly, repair, reassembly, retest and final cleanup--is completed in accordance with approved procedures, regulations and programs.

Directs and performs simulated maintenance activities on mockups or clean equipment to help determine the best method for repair.

Operates all friction cranes and hydraulic cranes with unlimited rated capacity; Operates all gantry cranes; Assists with support of Susquehanna's rigging program enhancements as a subject matter expert to assist personnel involved in training processes; Performs the duties of OJT Trainer as it pertains to rigging programs and safe equipment operation of all cranes used at Susquehanna.

Performs pipe fitting and welding using all processes on all joint configurations for piping systems and equipment. (JM Mechanic welding at F-10 rate of pay)

Performs all the duties associated with the Predictive Specialist Mechanical such as diagnoses source of trouble where one or more systems are involved to correct improper performance of equipment using various technologies; including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, balance rotating equipment, diesel engine analysis, motor electrical analysis, ultrasonic sound and vibration data collection and analysis, airflow balance and testing and station HEPA/charcoal filter testing. Performs analysis based on collected data, and recommends course of action.

Performs rigging requiring a high degree of skill in the erection, assembly, and disassembly of structures, power transformers, pumps and motors, and turbine/ generation equipment, etc. at substations, generating stations, and remote locations.

Performs layout of conduit and pipe systems on air, water, steam, oil, electric, and gas lines, etc. as defined on drawings, sketches, or specifications with limited direction.

Performs hydrostatic tests.
-

Holds clearance orders in performance of the above-mentioned work.
-

Performs paperwork associated with job duties.
-

Performs switching required to isolate and block out equipment other than under the direct jurisdiction of the power plant. (DDNO)
-

Performs limited switching as defined in the Clearance and Tagging procedures for crane disconnect operation. During outages performs limited switching within the boundaries of the clearance order for the assigned work package and as defined in the Clearance and Tagging procedures for the purpose of MOV, AOV and solenoid valve work.

Performs procedure reviews and initiates changes to procedures as required.

Assists in the training and development of lower rated employees in the mechanical line.
-

Performs all the duties associated with the Mechanical Maintenance Planner such as the development of work plans to support mechanical maintenance and construction activities. Plans plant maintenance, repair, modification, renovation activities, job walkdowns, etc.
-

Performs work package readiness walkdowns.
-

Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
-

High school education or equivalent.
-

Successfully passing the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selections System (MASS).
-

Satisfactory performance and experience as a Mechanic-Nuclear and successful completion of Mechanic-Nuclear assigned units of instruction, or equivalent practical experience and training.
-

Motor vehicle operator's license.
-

Ability to interpret sketches, diagrams, and complex specifications.
-

Ability to direct other employees.
-

Thorough knowledge of tools and materials used in mechanical and structural work.
-

Ability to obtain unescorted site access for SSES.
-

Strength and endurance to perform the above duties.
-

Thorough knowledge of the company's Energy Control system.
-

Ability to organize, plan, schedule, and direct work, including learning and implementing new work methods.
-

Working knowledge of computer-based systems pertaining to the job.
-

Ability to obtain Asbestos Worker license.
